Kandi Curry

Weekly writing challenge: A pinch of You

This week, we want a window into the complexity that is you. We want your best recipes.

We don’t mean we want your best recipe for fried chicken, we want the recipe for all the bits and pieces and quirks and foibles and loves that make you you.

Here’s a juicy titbit….a starter you can munch on while you go through my delicious kandi curry recipe!

Do you know my surname- kandicuppa comprises of 2 words-

Kandi meaning yellow dal/lentils and

Cuppa (pronounced cooppa!) meaning heap. (in Telugu, which is an Indian language)

so my ancestors are from a place where there was an abundance of dal/lentils!

Isn’t that interesting?!

Now here’s the recipe! 🙂 enjoy!!

A little bit of innocence in the jar,

A little bit of cheeky fun by the bar,

A dash of fiery temper, into the mix,

a hint of sweet smile, playing on the lips,

A little bit of attitude on the go,

Desire (Loop Poem)

Poets corner poetry challenge: Loop Poetry

Desire…

is a butterfly,

butterfly born to fly,

fly far away from you,

you stupid little boy.

Boy’s not amused,

amused butterfly smiles,

smiles and teases the poor lad,

lad runs behind.

Behind’s his whole life,

life that could’ve been,

been what he wanted,

wanted and desired even.

Even now it isn’t too late,

late to come running back,

back to the older you,

you are worth more than that!

My closest friend is….

My guardian angel,

a ray of hope,

in the sea of danger,

A shoulder to cry on,

when overwhelmed,

a mentor, a guide,

at dead ends,

Her winsome smile,

lights up my face,

cheers me up,

in the gloomiest of days,

Her reassuring nod,

says ‘I understand’,

she doesn’t need words

to say she cares.

She allows me

to be

who I am,

& yet makes me feel

like the perfect friend,

She has stood like a rock

in my most trying times,

protecting me,

like you would a child,

Her melodious voice

is like a balm to the soul,

it  fills my heart,

makes it whole,

I don’t know what

I would’ve done without her,

this poem’s for you,

hope you like it

my dear!

pencil sketch by me

Here’s a quick sketch I recently made…felt inspired to write a poem too…It’s from the point of view of a guy. Here it is…enjoy!

That smouldering gaze,

Melancholy eyes,

pierce my heart,

like stinging butterflies,

I confess to things,

I have never done,

just to admire you longer,

before time flies…

There Will Only Be Remorse

Here’s a poem on our ‘Photo Obsessive culture’ from marlon’s blog at marlonspoetry.wordpress.com…..one that I loved immensely! 🙂 enjoy

Sounds of the Son

Are you pleased with your pictures?
You have managed to capture a corpse
Appraising life through photographs
Is a cold and crippling course

Looking cute is not a culture
It’s a vulture that is vain and forced
Posting self portrayals for gawking eyes
And squawking mouths to endorse

When smooth and supple skin
Becomes more callous and coarse
There will be no more bodily pride
There will only be remorse
