Ode to Shin-chan
The first time I saw it, I was anything but impressed,
by the kiddish crayon graphics or the emotions expressed!
But something caught my eye, I didn’t know what it was,
till the day I heard a laugh from across the room-
where I was!
Dropping everything on the floor, I ran out to the hall,
Only to see….. my brother…,
-watching shin-chan have a ball!
I saw a 5 year old,
talking like… an all grown up!
Fancying girls thrice as tall
and thrice his age… & up!!
It shocked me initially,
I’ve got to admit that,
But it was so hilarious,
I fell in love…
with the cheeky brat!
His laugh is infectious and so are his idiosyncrasies,
You are forced to smile…,
if not for the humour, for his absurdities!
He is not known for good etiquettes
and can be a little too frank to bear,
Often leaves his parents, uncomfortable,
and his teachers, pulling their hairs!
When things go wrong, like they almost always do,
he gets whacked on the head, leading to a bump or two!
But they disappear instantly just the way they appeared,
and he gets back to doing what he does…without a hint of fear!
He is a master of landing up
…where he is least expected,
especially on doorsteps of people,
he isn’t even acquainted!
His unwelcome entry often takes them by surprise,
spoiling their plans, rarely blessing in disguise!
His sister is a darling, that’s what her mother thinks,
but she is naughtier than all and blames him for her (mis)deeds!!
His mother’s a loving housewife, obsessed with make-up & shopping,
and likes to spend her free time either sleeping or nagging!
Her father’s a timid man, who gets beaten up by his wife,
for playing too much golf, and not doing too well in life!
His parents fight about things so common and everyday,
you can connect to the characters
whether you’re from Japan or Zimbabwe!
But…He is after all a quintessential bad boy,
so I’m sure all mums will agree,
He is the last kid they would want their kids to emulate
…even if he is all for free!!up in arms: to be very angry have a ball: to enjoy yourself very much idiosyncrasy: A distinctive quality, characteristic, habit etc. peculiar to an individual; quirk quintessential: the perfect manifestation or embodiment of anything
